This week's lecture features the Column of Trajan. It depicts a 650-foot-long story, spiraling upward in marble. It was dedicated to the Roman emperor, Trajan, by the Senate and people of Rome in A.D. 113. There was nothing quite like it in the world when it was conceived, and it remains one of the wonders of ancient art.
