The driving forces behind Supreme Court decisions are a matter of great public and scholarly debate. Are justices guided by the law? Ideology? Other factors? Dr. Morgan Hazelton of St. Louis University will address theory and evidence regarding Supreme Court decision-making from both legal and social science perspectives. The discussion will include conversations regarding philosophies about how justices should behave, the role of the Court in the political system, and empirical findings about how the Supreme Court operates.
